The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands is a nonprofit organization that provides support to people experiencing crises. Their mission is suicide prevention: they are dedicated to helping people contemplating suicide or personally affected by suicide. Their goal is to be a caring and compassionate listener who, through interaction in a safe and anonymous environment, can rekindle people’s lost sense of hope, de-escalate a situation from a crisis level, and provide the pathway that makes day-to-day living manageable.
There is nothing shameful about feeling suicidal. There may be pain, hopelessness, and feelings of isolation; but there never needs to be shame. And with help, there can be hope.
